I specialize in creating delicious healthy recipes, including easy to make dessert recipes, from whole, fresh, unprocessed foods. I LOVE to eat, and I love to reward my body with really good and nourishing food!
Being a healthy eater, in my house, includes easy chocolate dessert recipes that you can make in your own kitchen using simple, healthy ingredients.
These easy chocolate dessert recipes are great as an after-dinner treat to ward off junk food cravings. You really can have your cake and eat it, too! In fact, I like to have them for breakfast. In my house, healthy breakfast desserts are something we all enjoy because they're completely guilt-free. YUM!
Ingredients for my Healthy Chocolate Mousse recipe:
1/4 cup raw cacao powder* or unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 to 1/3 cup water
1/4 cup raw agave nectar*
1 avocado
*Raw cacao is considered a "superfood." It's unsweetened, unprocessed, unrefined chocolate. It's the real thing! You can buy it at many grocery stores, including Whole Foods. This is what it looks like:
Have you discovered raw agave nectar?
Raw agave is a natural, unrefined sweetener that can be used anywhere you would normally use white sugar.
Raw agave is pulled from the agave plant of Mexico. It's absolutely nectar-like and is actually sweeter than refined sugar, but it doesn't spike your blood sugar. Because it is raw and unrefined, all of its nutrients and enzymes are intact.
Health nuts the world over have embraced raw agave for its healthful properties. It reminds me of a cross between maple syrup and honey and is a perfect addition to easy chocolate dessert recipes. Just be sure you buy the raw kind! It should clearly say RAW on the label.
Directions for making my Healthy Chocolate Mousse recipe:
1) Peel the avocado and cut it into chunks.
2) Add all ingredients to your blender or food processor and blend until VERY smooth (there should be no chunks!). You may have to stop the blender and stir the mixture if it becomes too thick and prevents the blades from moving.
3) Once the mousse is completely smooth, you're done! Spoon into a bowl and refrigerate for two to three hours before serving. Will keep for several days.
This easy chocolate dessert recipe is so delicious you won't ever miss the dairy and the sugar!
Healthy eating tip: You can take my chocolate mousse recipe to work with you in a tupperware container and enjoy it as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.
Raw cacao is a natural energizer and mood elevator.
This is why women are stereotypically so drawn to eat chocolate, because it gives a little boost to our spirits and our energy.
Raw cacao is MUCH more powerful than the refined, processed chocolate you buy in stores. It's such a natural energy boost that I sometimes have one of the easy chocolate dessert recipes featured on this page in the morning as a healthy replacement for coffee (which I gave up five years ago).
If you want easy to make dessert recipes with the consistency of whipped air, then I cannot more highly recommend the Vita-mix blender. It's an investment of money, but I can honestly say it's worth every penny. Finally giving up those cheap blenders and getting a Vita-mix professional blender was, for me, like getting out of a twenty year old pickup truck and sliding behind the wheel of a BMW! One of the best decisions I've ever made.
